Yoga Anatomy

with Andrew Olson • First Sunday of the month

This series of workshops is for teachers and students of yoga. Each session will focus on a particular posture or series of postures from an injury prevention perspective.

Workshop #3: Topic announced soon!
Read about our recent Workshop: Pelvic Stability
This month’s Yoga Anatomy Workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to know more about the pelvis and how it can be one of our greatest assets in preventing injury on the mat.
We will review the muscular anatomy of the pelvis before diving deep into feeling how these muscles keep our bodies strong during class.
There will also be time to practice specific exercises which increase your pelvic stability creating a strong and controlled practice.
If you have ever felt back pain while practicing or want to learn some more tricks on how to avoid back pain in the future then this is for you.
Spaces are limited to keep the workshop active and personalised so make sure to book your mat online so you don’t miss out!
Next workshop:
Sunday 2 December • 2-4pm
$40 // $35 for yoga teachers & seeker+kind members

Hawaiian Hula

with Anna Carbonell

Anna has been dancing the hula for over 26 years all over the U.S.A. including Hawaii, Philippines and Australia.  Although not a native of Hawaii, she respects and represents the culture with the heart and soul of a true Hawaiian local.   She has studied under several prominent kumu hulas (master teachers in the art of Hula) in Hawaii and belongs to a hālau hula, Pua Ali’i ‘Ilima o Nuioka, under the tutelage of kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine. Anna has formed a hula “hui” (dance group) called Aloha Hula NSW in Mullumbimby that perpetuates the traditions of hula not only as a form of dance and cultural education but most importantly as a way of life.  Hula aims to connect the practitioner to all beings as well as the wind, ocean, rain, forest, mountains, lava, flowers, trees and everything in nature.  Come learn the hula to move the way the elements of the earth move and leave feeling more connected to nature and each other.

kinds of classes

Traditional, alignment-based exploration of a full range of postures. Essentially, all physical practices of ‘yoga’ are called ‘hatha yoga’. Suitable for all levels.

Flowing sequences based around Surya Namaskar (sun salutes). Working with breath to connect and discover. Suitable for those who have some yoga experience but accessible to everyone as modifications can be given.

Based on the teaching of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, this practice synchronises breath and bandhas (internal locks) with a progressive series of postures. Suited to those who have some experience and/or like to sweat.

If you are new to yoga or it’s been a while – this class is for you! Work with fundamental yoga postures and techniques. This class is for every-body.
